How Safe Are You in A Resort Bubble?

October 12, 2020

Recent news in Hawaii has reported that resorts and other vacation spots are adapting a “resort bubble,” which constitutes additional safety protocols for visitors and tourists to ensure them that any risks on their health will be as low as possible. But, with the foregoing health concerns and the manner of the transmission of the virus, how safe are we really in a resort bubble? Let’s look at some of these safety protocols to see if the risks are low enough:

  1. Strict Safety and Tracing Measures: Prior to admission, visitors will be subjected to information gathering (travel history etc.) for contract tracing purposes. They will also undergo testing, health screening, and temperature checks prior to arrival. Only once visitors have passed all these screening activities will they be admitted to the resort bubble.
  2. Minimizing Physical Contact: One of the higher possibilities of transmission is through touching an item that was previously in physical contact by an infected person. Resort bubbles have devised a plan to minimize this problem, specifically for high-touch areas such as doorknobs on rooms. Resort owners have adapted to no-touch mechanisms through wireless means such as the use of RFID straps for keyless entry mechanisms on the rooms. Some also use other keyless (and touchless) variants such as QR codes in which visitors scan it straight from their smartphones in order to gain access to their rooms.
  3. Level-Up Cleaning: Apart from the usual cleaning and maintenance of the premises and the rooms, resort bubbles have increased their cleaning protocols to ensure total hygiene. There will be frequent disinfecting on surrounding areas, specifically for high touch areas. Some even have UV disinfecting devices that will help kill viruses and germs on all surfaces.
  4. Restricted Movement: While in the resort bubble, visitors’ movement will be restricted within the premises and will not be permitted to go out when their intended length of stay has lapsed unless they pass a screening again.

There are quite a number of health and safety protocols that you will experience when you opt to stay in a resort bubble. It may seem restrictive, but it will definitely benefit you in fully enjoying your stay and your personal time off without even thinking about compromising your health.
